Dibetou Veneer, a tree species known by its trade name as dibetou, is from the meliaceae family. It grows in Central and West Africa.
In order to avoid possible confusion with real walnuts, the scientific name of dibeto, which is called African Walnut in English, is also known as Lovoa trichilioides.
The dimensions of the tree are approximately 100-150 ft (30-46 m) high with a trunk diameter of 2-4 ft (.6-1.2 m). Its plantations have also been established in Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Uganda. Pruning prevents premature branching. It is also very advantageous for wood production. It takes about 60-70 years to reach a diameter of about 90 cm and to activate the trees.
